There is a growing threat to undersea fibre optic telecommunications cables in Arctic waters. Earlier this year, NATO allies stopped a Russian submarine that was training to damage undersea cables in the Arctic, and a vessel in Russia’s shadow fleet damaged four cables near the Baltics.
