A powerful nor’easter battered the U.S. East Coast on Saturday, flooding streets and properties on New York’s Long Island. Some Long Island residents had played down the threat before the storm arrived, while others expressed anxiety and moved belongings as they prepared for further flooding. “Don’t take this lightly. Don’t tempt Mother Nature. Don’t risk your life,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul warned, urging residents to stay home and avoid coastal areas. The storm affected areas from Washington, D.C. to Maine, forcing more than 400 flight cancellations and knocking out power to more than 100,000 homes and businesses at one point.
