Kalamazoo’s fourth annual Can-Am Peace Jam brought Americans and Canadians together for a day of music, food and cross-border friendship at a moment of unusually tense relations between the two countries. Founder Channon Russette-Mondoux created the festival after pandemic border closures separated her from family in Canada, and this year organizers moved the celebration indoors at the last minute when bad weather threatened the event. The gathering came weeks after Trump ordered federal agencies to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America” and amid new 50% tariffs on certain Canadian products. Ring of Fire's Josh G. explains.
