The White House cited a Politico story quoting an anonymous “senior administration official” as part of its justification for banning the outlet, arguing that unauthorized disclosures could threaten national security. The Washington Post later confirmed that the disputed remarks came from an authorized White House background briefing where reporters were specifically instructed to identify the speaker anonymously, and subsequent reporting identified that official as Vice President JD Vance. Trump-appointed Judge Timothy Kelly has since temporarily restored access for Politico, CNN and MS NOW, finding that their due-process claims are likely to succeed. Ring of Fire's Josh G. explains.
