Dick Durbin (D-IL), the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, defended former special counsel Jack Smith's investigations into President Trump and accused his Republican colleagues of "whitewashing" history and seeking to discredit the investigations. "In both his theft and distribution of these classified documents and his attempts to steal the 2020 election, President Trump displayed a wanton disdain for the laws of the United States, the will of the people and our national security," Sen. Durbin said in his opening statement.
