Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new measures to protect Canada’s oceans on Tuesday afternoon in Vancouver B.C., with a $1.2 billion investment “to keep our waters safe, to protect marine life, and to strengthen frontline conservation enforcement.” “We must further strengthen our conservation efforts through fast effective response plans and by changing how we build, how we travel and how we operate on the water to minimize impact,” Carney said. An additional $136 million investment over the next four years was also announced to “monitor, assess and mitigate underwater noise across Canada's oceans” as marine traffic grows.
