Trump pardoned or commuted every January 6 defendant on his first day back in office, and now some of those same people are suing the federal government for money over their arrests, prosecutions and prison sentences. From Lisa Eisenhart and the “zip-tie guy” to defendants convicted of assaulting police officers, the push for compensation comes as the administration continues reshaping the official story of what happened at the Capitol. At the same time, the long-delayed memorial honoring officers who defended Congress finally went up, while questions are already growing about how this movement would respond to another transfer of power in January 2027.
