Ken Paxton spent months tying his Senate campaign to Donald Trump, but behind closed doors he reportedly gave Republican donors a very different assessment: Trump’s Dallas midterm convention hurt his numbers, along with those of other GOP candidates. That creates an awkward split with Trump, who has repeatedly claimed the convention was a massive success and specifically said it helped Paxton. Now Paxton’s campaign is pushing back without denying the recorded remarks, while public polling has James Talarico ahead and Trump himself accidentally amplified one of those polls on Truth Social.
