Hundreds of prisoners across England and Wales have been released early to free up prison space. Reacting to the news on BBC Two's Politics Live, Faiza Shaheen from Tax Justice UK said “God forbid anything goes wrong” both for victims and for the government. She added that Labour have been in government for “more than two years” and “should have been able to better prepare for this moment”. Labour MP David Burton-Sampson said he is also “angry” that the release scheme was needed and said victims must be “front and centre” of the reforms. Presenter Vicki Young was also joined by Times columnist and author Matthew Syed and Laila Cunningham from Reform UK.
