There are very few people in the industry who have understood the genre of science fiction like John Carpenter. His sci-fi films are nuanced and are often a blend of suspense, action, and social commentary. The perfect example of this is the 1981 film Escape from New York starring Kurt Russell, Ernest Borgnine, and Lee Van Cleef. The film has the rare achievement of being a commercial success, a favourite among the critics and also a cult classic. For me, the limelight stealer is Snake Plissken, the swashbuckling protagonist of the film. That man, with his distrust and disillusionment of authority and iconic eyepatch, is a badass through and through. If one thing got me watching Escape from New York over and over again it was Snake! #SnakePlissken #EscapeFromNewYork #KurtRussell #80sscifi
