Everyone is worried about AI changing video games. But I don't think AI is the biggest problem facing the industry. Games have been getting bigger for years: bigger teams, bigger budgets, bigger worlds, longer development cycles, higher graphical expectations, more marketing pressure, and less room for failure. And when a game becomes too expensive to fail, it also becomes too expensive to take risks. In this video, I talk about how scale is changing modern game development — from the AAA graphics arms race and metric-driven design to risk aversion, corporate hiring, massive production costs, and the growing pressure to make games for everyone. AI might change how games are made. But it didn't create these problems. The industry was already heading in this direction. Maybe games don't need to become bigger. Maybe they need to become smaller again. #GameDesign #GameDevelopment #Gaming
