Quebecers are going to the polls in a consequential provincial election that could see five different parties elect members to the legislature. As Touria Izri reports, the separatist Parti Québécois appears poised to win the most seats despite most people in Quebec opposing another referendum. Albertans are preparing to vote on whether their province should begin the legal process to hold a binding referendum on leaving Canada. Heather Yourex-West reports on how some Alberta separatists have been meeting with U.S. officials in the meantime and the disputing claims about the content of those talks. Governments around the world are closely monitoring reports out of Russia, where a suspected case of pneumonic plague is being linked to the death of a lab technician. Eric Sorensen looks at what's known about the situation. Plus, researchers Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel have won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in the field of optogenetics.
