“A sombre anniversary of an unspeakable tragedy” are the words Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney used Wednesday to describe the fatal Hamas attacks at an Israeli festival three years ago to the day. The onslaught left roughly 1,200 dead and 251 taken captive by the Palestinian militant group. Carney highlighted the Government of Canada’s $75 million funding for protective measures, as well as legislative measures – including Bill C9 — to mitigate antisemitism and keep Jewish communities across Canada safe. Furthermore, the prime minister noted those protective measures helped keep Jewish Canadians safe at a Belleville synagogue last month after a shooting that put Const. Jeff Smith — who Carney offered praise to — in hospital after being shot at by the assailant. “There’s more work to do. This is a job for all Canadians; to ensure that all Canadians can live freely and openly in our society,” Carney told reporters. For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/1209090
