A new national survey suggests food banks and shelters cannot provide enough food to keep up with rising demand across Canada. An Ipsos survey – conducted for food rescue charity Second Harvest – found 89 per cent of organizations surveyed saw an increase in demand for food over the past year. It's gotten so bad, the report says, that one-in-three have a waitlist for food programs, while more than one-third have been forced to turn people away due to limited resources. Second Harvest says the findings paint a picture of a charity system under growing pressure, as more Canadians turn to community organizations for help to put food on the table.
