New York officials gave new details Thursday night about an ICE-involved shooting that left a man hospitalized. An officer fired at least seven rounds into a car, wounding a man while a five-year-old boy sat unharmed in the backseat, according to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The mayor added he spent two hours on the phone with President Donald Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin negotiating for the man's release, but that ICE “put the man in an unmarked vehicle and whisked him away." In a post on X, DHS said the encounter happened during a “targeted enforcement operation" to arrest a "criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic," adding that the man had a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny, and multiple prior arrests.
