Hours after Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement that the federal government was investing $2 billion to help Canadian homeowners reduce emissions and lower up-front costs of electric heat pumps, Conservative MP John Brassard alleged Carney was doing so to help his own investments at the same time. “Trane — owned by Brookfield — who finances and installs heat pumps. Enercare — owned by Brookfield — they finance and install heat pumps. The conflict of interest is so blatantly obvious, but what’s surprising is the prime minister’s not even hiding it anymore. How much does the prime minister and Brookfield stand to make off the backs of taxpayers,” Brassard said. Meanwhile, Conservative MP Eric Duncan grilled the Liberals over an alleged NATO spy who was granted a security clearance in part by one of Carney’s top advisors, David Morrison. “It was Belgium, not Canada that caught this spy… why’s the minister covering up for this Liberal incompetence,” Duncan asked.
