C-SPAN's "Ceasefire" — Democratic pollster and strategist Geoff Garin and Republican pollster and strategist Whit Ayres discuss President Trump's job approval rating and its effect on the midterm elections, as well as his calls to vote as if he were on the ballot. Mr. Ayres described the relationship between a president's job approval rating and congressional seat losses as predictable, citing historical averages. "When the president's job approval is above 50%, the average loss of House seats is 14," he said. "When the president's job approval is below 50%, the average loss of House seats is 32." In response to the president's calls for voters to vote as if he were on the ballot, Mr. Garin said Republicans should be distancing themselves from the president but that they are "too late to do that."
