A curious and possibly troubling discovery on the coast of Haida Gwaii last month may offer some insight into current ocean conditions. A six-foot long swordfish carcass, which is normally found in waters south of B.C., is leaving some scientists to believe heatwaves, along with the El Niño trend, are pointing to troubling realities for marine life. "I think with climate change and the ocean warming this is going to become an increasingly common thing to happen is to see these unusual creatures washing up," Isabella Morgante from the Institute for the Ocean and Fishers at UBC said. Darya Zargar has the details, and how it follows other similar findings in recent years.
