The mother of a murdered child has come forward to slam the Parole Board of Canada for granting her son's killer day passes from a Vancouver Island prison. Following the 2005 death of nine-year-old Brandon, his grandmother's then boyfriend Doug Lambier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Brandon was found having been smothered to death after being left in Lambier's care. The man was found with alcohol in his system, and his shorts button and zipper, undone. In recent years, the 63-year-old has been serving his sentence at a minimum-security prison, and is the institution's second convicted killer to be granted some freedom. Brandon's mother Tina Gervais says the Parole Board's decision was, "a slap in the face for our family... The hardest is knowing that my son doesn't have a life and this guy does."
