The first person who tries to warn us about the monster in The Thing tells us exactly what it is, I am talking about the Norwegian dude shooting at the dog… but the problem is, most of us and even the people from the U.S. Outpost 31 cannot understand him. It was very much intentional and required for a film in which the information that could save your life is always too close to you but out of your reach. John Carpenter’s 1982 film has creatures that can split open a man’s chest and turn his head into something with legs, but the crux of the movie is pretty simplistic actually.
