Modern society has become increasingly divided and hostile, especially in the United States. Why this is happening is a complex topic, but one of the core reasons for the increasing polarization could be something called toxic tribalism. Toxic Tribalism or Toxic Neotribalism is a loyalty to one’s perceived tribe or social group to the point that they operate out of dogma and cognitive biases instead of facts and truth. A good example today is 'Democrats vs Republicans'. At the heart of toxic tribalism are two parts: 1. An ‘Us vs Them’ Mentality - That my group or tribe is fully correct and good in all its positions and there is an opposing group or groups that are is fully wrong and evil. 2. Destruction of the Opposition - the other groups or tribes are so morally incorrect and dangerous, our tribe needs to take action, perhaps in the form of propaganda, censorship, lawmaking, violence, and more, to impend the other tribe.
