On August 23rd, 2026, a chunk of the PlayStation community logged out of PlayStation Network, turned off their consoles, and originally said they wouldn’t return for a single week. They called it the PlayStation Blackout. Hashtag PlayStation Blackout! The call for this boycott came from a Twitter account called Does It Play, with the request of no logins, no play, no purchases, and no activity on PlayStation for 1 week in protest of Sony’s decision to stop manufacturing PlayStation discs starting in January of 2028. By August 30th, the week ended, but somewhere during the boycott week, there was an update that no, the boycott isn’t just one week anymore; now we need to stop playing for as long as you can.
