I just turned 40 today. After 25 years of training, here are 20 lessons every lifter should know. Number 1, the best thing to do when you don't feel like going to the gym is to go to the gym. Number 2, 2-3 hard, focused workouts per week beats the crap out of 5-6 mediocre ones. Number 3, getting very strong on a few key lifts will build way more muscle than chasing fancy variations. Number 4, comparing yourself to enhanced lifters is a losing game. They're playing by a completely different set of rules. Number 5, just because you got a pump and felt sore doesn't mean you had a productive workout. Sensation is not the same as stimulus. Number 6, the main factor separating average physiques from outstanding physiques is training intensity. Number 7, track your workouts. Without actual numbers, it'll be way harder to know if you're really moving forward. Number 8, stick to one routine long enough to progress on it. Program hopping will just have you running in circles. Number 9
