Some lifters actually do get bloated when they take creatine, but not for the reason most people you think. When you consume creatine, it's absorbed into your bloodstream and then transported into your muscle cells, and as it builds up inside the cell, it creates an osmotic pull that draws in water along with it. For creatine to make you look "puffy" or "watery", it would need to increase subcutaneous water retention directly under your skin. But creatine works inside your muscles only, which gives them a fuller look rather than a softer one. The real reason people report "bloating" after they start taking creatine is usually one of two things. Either they're getting stomach discomfort from doing a loading phase and taking too much at once rather than splitting up the dose, then split into 4 doses or they're taking it while bulking and also eating more carbs and sodium, and then blaming the water retention on the creatine even though it has nothing to do with it. There's no good eviden
