Carbs don’t make you fat. Only too many total calories does. As long as you're not eating above your calorie maintenance level, a higher carb intake won't magically cause fat gain. And if you're in a deficit, you'll continue to lose fat. The timing isn't an issue either, since it ultimately comes down to total energy in versus out over the day as a whole. I personally eat between 300-400 grams of carbs most days and stay lean year round, because I keep my total calories in check. The majority of that (around 80-90%) comes from minimally processed whole food sources to ensure fiber and micronutrient needs are met, and the remainder comes from whatever I feel like. Not only does no single macronutrient cause fat gain on its own, but no single food does either. If you just feel better eating low carb, that’s fine.
