So many people get this wrong, not just on dumbbell rows but on all of their back exercises, and it's the reason why you mostly feel it in your arms instead of your back. For all pulling exercises, you want to make sure the line of force from the weight is running in line with your forearms. If your forearms are angled backward or forward excessively, you'll be shifting emphasis onto elbow flexion or extension, and those smaller arm muscles will become the weak link in the movement.
